SMELL TEST DIRECT

Smell loss may be one of the most important signs of risk for developing brain disease.

This study, run by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, is exploring this link by providing study participants with a simple scratch-and-sniff test that they can do from home.

Participant eligibility criteria

  • Participants must be aged 60 or older and will not have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
  • Patients will upload the results of their smell test to an online portal for review.
  • If results are abnormal, there will be a nurse follow-up call to discuss an invitation to a DaTscan to assess suitability for the PPMI longitudinal study.
  • If eligible for the PPMI study, the patient will be asked to attend an annual in-person site visit for collection of biospecimens, imaging scans and cognitive and motor testing.
